Esther B. Kahn


The Esther B. Kahn Charitable Foundation was established in 1998 by Esther B. Kahn, an innovative educator, philanthropist and patron of the arts. The Foundation continues Esther's lifelong legacy of supporting groundbreaking approaches to education, the arts and medical research.

The Foundation fulfills its charitable purposes by making grants to other charitable organizations. Eligible grant applicants must be located in New England and must be classified as public charities under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation does not make grants to organizations classified as private foundations, organizations located outside New England or individuals.

The Foundation aims to support projects that are designed to achieve a specific, tangible and lasting result within a reasonable period of time, with a special emphasis on innovative and groundbreaking initiatives. Applicants who can demonstrate that a grant from the Foundation will be matched by additional funding from another source may be given priority.

Preliminary applications are considered once a year and must be submitted by December 31 for consideration. Decisions on applications submitted by December 31 will be announced in May.
